Gunther is one of 5 kittens that a caring citizen took in and they ended up in our foster program.
Little Gunther had an umbilical hernia which was repaired this past week at the time of his neuter. Gunther also had a polyp (small mass) in his throat, which was causing him to wheeze. This polyp was removed at the time of his neuter. Due to having the polyp removed, he now has Horner's Syndrome. You can see the evidence of this in his photo, if you look at his left eye. He is breathing much better and most likely the Horner's Syndrome will disappear with time.
GUNTHER HAS TESTED + FOR FIV. This virus is spread to other cats through bites. Casual, non-aggressive contact and sharing of bowls and grooming each other does not seem to spread the virus. FIV+ cats/kittens can live in homes with other cats/kittens as long as the cats has a positive social structure and do not fight.
The virus will not normally pass from mother to kittens but kittens may test + due to mother's antibodies. It is highly recommended to have Gunther retested with his adopter's veterinarian in 6 months. He will likely test negative.
